Graves Seals “the deal” at The Rock

(Kimberling City, MO)  Parsons KS Pro Curt Graves took advantage of the high waters at Table Rock May 3-4 to fish shallow, where he knew the better fish lived.  Flipping a tube into the heavy flooded vegetation, Graves managed a 2 day limit weighing 32.36 pounds, while only burning less than 10 gallons of gas for the tournament.  Graves bettered runner up Shane Long’s catch by nearly a pound, and created some excitement in the process.  As he took the stage with his pre school aged son Dominic, the weight was read, and Graves declared the winner.  When young Dominic was asked about the $5000 payday his dad was about to get, Dominic shouted “NO DEAL”, much to the delight of the crowd.  Graves spent the weekend at Table Rock celebrating not only his victory, but his wife’s birthday as well.

ANPAC Pro Shane Long almost capped off a story book ending to his tournament.  After a low finish at the Stren event on Kentucky Barkley, Long took the 5 hour drive west to come back to Table Rock, to fish the CPAA event with no practice.  Also utilizing a shallow water pattern, the young pro managed a two day limit that bounced the scales to 31.41 pounds, giving him an $1800 payday.  On top of that, Long won the ANPAC Bonus award of $500 for being the highest finishing ANPAC policyholder, and an additional $1000 for being the highest finishing Skeeter Real Money Participant, bringing his total winnings to $3300.

Third Place in the Pro Division went to Kimberling City Pro angler Bill Beck, who managed 10 fish over the two days for 30.31 pounds, netting him $800 for his finish.

In the amateur division there was some shuffling in the lower pay slots after day 2, but Greenwood MO amateur division angler Bill Davis held on to his lead, weighing in a 2 day total of 27.64 pounds, which netted him $1100 for his efforts.  When asked after day one if he was nervous, he replied, “Not really.  My day 2 partner, Mike Sutherland, fished the same areas as my pro (Clyde Frey) did today; and his partner did well, so hopefully I’ll do good tomorrow as well.” He finished.

He barely outlasted Springdale AR amateur competitor Joey Penzo, who managed to boat 2 limits of fish to net him a $625 payday for his finish, plus an additional $500 Skeeter Real Money for being the highest finishing Skeeter Real Money Participant in the Amateur Division.  Skeeter Real Money pays out as much as $3000 to a winning pro, and $500 to the leading amateur participant.  Central Pro Am Association is the only organization in the country rewarding amateur division anglers with Real Money benefits.

The next stop on the 2008 tour will be the Lake Dardanelle Pro Am in early June.  Entries may be placed via telephone at 417-739-3478, or by mailing entry forms to PO Box 610, Kimberling City MO  65686.
