(Osage Beach, MO) Freeburg MO Pro Andre Dickneite certainly emulates the movie “Walking Tall”; he speaks very softly, and he carries a big stick. The soft spoken pro utilized two patterns to complete a wire to wire finish at the Lake of the Ozarks April 5-6. A 3/8 ounce jighead, tipped with a four inch Chompers Hula Grub and a large bladed spinnerbait were the weapons of choice for him.

“I just had to slow way down,” he commented. “When I thought I was fishing slow, I’d go ahead and slow down some more,” he continued. “I’ve never fished a spinnerbait as slowly as I did this tournament,:” he finished.

Dickneite’s two day tournament total of 31.10 pounds gave him a narrow victory over Lake of the Ozarks legend Roger Fitzpatrick, who also utilized a spinnerbait in the flood stained waters of Lake of the Ozarks. Fitzpatrick managed ten bass that bumped the scales up to 29.11 pounds; a good weight, but not good enough. Fitzpatrick won $1800 for his finish; Dickneite claimed $5,000 for the victory.

Yamaha Pro Troy Eakins stumbled for the first time in 3 tries with CPAA in the past two years, as he failed to make it three victories in a row, finishing the 2008 event with a two day limit caught on his namesake jig that weighed 27.77 pounds.

But the real story may have been the amazing sack of fish brought to the scales on day 2 by Ozark MO Amateur division competitor Bill Edwards. His five fish limit, weighing 21.67 pounds, was enough to win the event on its own merit; however he was able to add an additional 4.38 pounds from day one, giving him a 2 day total of 26.05 pounds, and $1100 to add to his bank account. His day 2 limit, the heaviest of the tournament in either division, was anchored by 3 identical five pound fish, and came on white spinnerbaits down by the dam area of the lake.

Skeeter Real Money was paid out to Shane Long, who won $1000 as the highest finishing Real Money participant in the event in the pro division. In the amateur division, the Real Money winner was Dan McGennis, the reigning amateur division champion. McGennis claimed $500 in the Real Money program.
